Top 100 Albums of the 00s, Part 1: Australian/NZ

A few months ago I was reading a list in Rolling Stone (USA) of the top 100 albums of the 2000s. The problem was that the list was very America-centric. There were five albums by three bands that were not American. I noted the bias and tried to write my own list.

Soon into this project I noticed my own bias being Australian. So to avoid this I made two lists. One from Australia and New Zealand, and one for everywhere else in the world.

The rules were simple:

- All the albums had to have an original release date between 1st January 2000 and 31st December 2009.

- All the album artists had to be Australian or Kiwi
- The albums had to have had some sort of cultural or artistic impact, or be very popular at the time.

- All albums had to be nationally available 

Some of my personal favourite albums of that decade, and albums that had a deep impact on my life were not included as they did not fulfil that criteria. One album that had a very big impact on my was by a local punk/pop/ska/party band called My Name Is John, who have sadly since parted ways. It was the album that I found by chance in my local record store that was a gateway to the entire Sydney live music scene. The lads in the bad took me under their wing and showed me the world. 

The reason why I bought he album was because it had a picture of John Howard on the Cover and was called Please to Meat You. I think one of the big selling points was the track listing. Some songs included A Dinner For Two/69er, All my friends want to fuck my sister, and The Moo Cow Song

Being a very immature 18 year old, I went for it. From that I met Aaron, Reed, and Peg at a gig, from those three, I met everyone in Sydney's music scene. It had an impact on my life, but didn't reach a national scale, thus will not be on this list. There are many local bands I would want to put on this list, but then there would be a bias to Sydney acts.
